Nintendo released a ground-up remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2 on Nov. 5, bringing the 1998 Nintendo 64 adventure to the current console with redesigned visuals, updated controls and expanded presentation [npr.org][techradar.com][elfinanciero.com.mx]. The story, core locations and dungeon structure remain largely intact, while the remake adds a controllable camera, jump and dash controls, streamlined item selection, voiced cutscenes and a re-recorded orchestral score [theverge.com][ign.com][videogameschronicle.com]. Reviewers praised the visual overhaul and quality-of-life changes, but differed over whether Nintendo’s close adherence to the original was a strength or a missed opportunity for bolder changes [theguardian.com][mobilesyrup.com][gamespot.com]. The remake is exclusive to Switch 2. Review aggregator OpenCritic listed a critic average of 95 and a 100% recommendation rate, while Mexican newspaper El Financiero reported a Metacritic score of 96 on the eve of release [opencritic.com][elfinanciero.com.mx]. Nintendo released version 1.1.1 before launch, adding compatibility with the Zelda Notes feature in the Nintendo Switch app and fixing several gameplay issues [nintendoeverything.com]. Highlights: • Retail pricing: PCMag listed the remake at $59.99 in the United States, while MobileSyrup reported Canadian prices of $100 for a physical copy and $85 digitally [pcmag.com][mobilesyrup.com]. • World details: The remake gives townspeople day-night routines and makes transitions between several areas and their interiors seamless, according to Video Games Chronicle [videogameschronicle.com]. Perspectives: Eiji Aonuma, Nintendo producer: Aonuma said he had reservations about adding a free-jump feature, but changed his mind after trying it because it gave players another way to approach goals and linked the game to newer Zelda titles [theverge.com].
