Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded U.S. first lady Melania Trump the Order of Princess Olga, First Class, citing her humanitarian work and role in arranging a six-day ceasefire that enabled civilians to leave Russian-occupied Oleshky in the Kherson region. Zelensky signed the decree Nov. 2, and Ukraine published it Wednesday [thehindu.com][independent.co.uk][scmp.com]. The truce, which Ukrainian officials said Trump helped secure, was the longest local pause in fighting since Russia’s 2022 full-scale invasion. Trump said nearly 800 people were evacuated. The pause allowed crews to clear mines from roads and residents to leave for Ukrainian- or Russian-controlled areas after weeks of food and medicine shortages [thehindu.com][independent.co.uk][insiderpaper.com]. Trump is due to host Russian and Ukrainian representatives at the White House on Thursday, Nov. 5. Russian human rights ombudsman Yana Lantratova and adviser Kirill Dmitriev are expected to meet Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets. Russia, Ukraine and the United States are also set to hold trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 10-11, their first such meeting since February [firstpost.com][theguardian.com][scmp.com].
